Station 1: Int this lab we had to observe rocks. Then we were to draw a diagram showing the close up veiw of them. Then we had to visit a website and find out were the rock came from.
Station 2: We had to find out the definition of the word friable which is easily crumbled. Next we had to find out which of the rocks were friable. Then we had to give three envirments were the rocks most likely would be found like the beach, lake, and river.
Statioin 3:In this station we looked at three different sandstone and we had to see what was different and the same. The differences were that they were differnet colors. The similarities are they have the same texture and same hardness. After that we loioked at our book and had to find some information.
Station 4: We had to look uder the microscope and record size of grian, color, and shape.
Station 5:In this station we had to observe rocks using a magnifing lens. We were to find out if the sandstones had the same minerals. Then we looked that Quartz and bauxite specimens and we had to find out which mineral the sandstone is made of. Then we looked if they used the same cementing agent and what color it was. After that we looked that our book and found out were the sandstone might have came from.
Station 6:In this station We had to give what enviement we thought the sediment rocks came from. then find out what caused the rippled appearence. then we used the textbook to find out what type of ripple marks they were.
Station 7: We compared rocks 1-6 and sediments a-f to match each one. Then we had to find out what type of envirment they came from.
Station 8: In this sation we were given two samples peat and coal. we had to see which had a greater mass and volume. Next we looked at both samples under a microscope and we gave a descripion and a picture. Next we went online and found out the major use of coal and top 10 countries that produce coal.
Station 9:In this sation we viewed 4 different sampleswe had to record the physical description, environment and frormation. then we were ask what we think the different colors fromed in the agate. Thenn we visit a website and were ask what countries are the top 3 salt producers in the world.
Sattion 10: we shaked a tube and waited for the four rock specimens to settle. we observe the grain size and the layering found in each specimens and we recorded our observations.
Station 11:We hadf to think what kind of animals lived in the veach then we thought of some evidence that shows that they were there. then we went to a website and found out what bioturbaton mean (trace fossils) and we list types of bioturbation.
Station 12:we filled the shell with playdoh then we found out what was similar and different between the shell and the cast. Next we used our books to describe major methods of preservation.
Station 13: we went to a website and found out if it was a plant or animalnext we described the crinoid lifestyle, drew the basic morphology of a stalked crinoid and observe the rock specimen. Then we went to another website and we decribe the envirment and lifestyle of a bryozoan and observe the rock specimens and found the fossilized bryozoans.
Station 14: we looked at the light colored specimen with the magnifying lens and we describe the grains in the rock. next we measured the size od\f few grains with a ruler.then we put why the grains droked up so much.THen we had to put what envirment we thoght the sediment was depsited in and we put a drop of acid on the rock and watched what happened .
